Kyondo Opens a Store: The Next Big Step
• by Kyondo Team • 5 min read

Three and a half years ago, we had an idea: We wanted to create something that reflects our passion for traditional craftsmanship and our roots in Africa – and so Kyondo was born. At the beginning, we had no fixed plan and no clear idea of how the project would develop. Everything started with our first market, Afro-Pfingsten in Winterthur, and even there we realized: Our idea had potential. People were enthusiastic about the baskets, and the positive feedback motivated us to continue – and now the time has come: Kyondo opens a store.
Markets as a Starting Point
In the first year, we took part in four markets, and in the second year there were already twelve. We loved visiting the markets, presenting our products, and connecting directly with people. It was especially wonderful to tell the stories behind our baskets, all of which are handmade and have a deep connection to the artisans who make them. In the third year, there were even over thirty markets – a number that surprised us and showed that Kyondo is on the right track.
But markets were not everything. We always had the vision of eventually opening our own store, a place where we could be present permanently. And now this dream has come true: We have opened our first store.
Our New Store in Sent
In the middle of Sent, a picturesque village in the Lower Engadine, right on the main street, we have opened our 100 square meter store at Sot Pradè 138. Sent is known for its beautiful, traditional Engadine houses and its quiet, charming atmosphere. Tourists and locals appreciate the place for its authenticity and proximity to nature. The perfect place for Kyondo to settle down.
Our store is spaciously designed, with two large shop windows that give a first glimpse into our world. The opening was a complete success. In the first three weeks, we were able to welcome many visitors – both guests from the region and locals who were curious to learn more about our products. The feedback was consistently positive, and it is a great feeling to be able to present our baskets in a permanent space.
A New Chapter for Kyondo
With the opening of our store, a new chapter begins in the history of Kyondo. It is a big step for us, but it feels absolutely right. We are proud of what we have achieved in recent years and look forward to the many more chapters that are yet to come.
Our goal remains to keep the art of basket weaving alive while offering modern, sustainable products that are accessible to everyone. We are excited about the future and where this path will take us.
Thank you to everyone who has supported us so far – you are part of this journey!
